Interior Design
The Interior Design program prepares undergraduate students to serve with integrity in a diverse and global marketplace, equipped to address human needs by applying methods of inquiry and design that promotes health, safety, and wellness of all users within the built environment. The program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). Students learn to apply the design process and technical skills to creatively solve design problems. The Interior Design program is a studio-based major. A sampling of required courses include:
- Survey of Western Art
- Textile Science
- Design Presentation Techniques
- Sustainable Design
- Space Planning
- Interior Design Graphics
Interior Design students must complete an internship with a qualified interior designer or architect for course credit. Baylor students have interned around the globe in a wide variety of design specialties ranging from Residential to Corporate to Historic Preservation.
The Interior Design program also offers an opportunity to study architectural history and the decorative arts in a summer study abroad program. Past destinations include Great Britain, France, Italy, and the Netherlands. This course is an exciting way to learn about architecture and design while experiencing some of the most iconic examples of architecture, design, art, and culture in the western world.
Upon graduation, Baylor’s Interior Design students gain employment in top-ranking, global architecture and design firms. Many graduates also continue their education by pursuing graduate degrees in architecture, interiors, historic preservation, and the decorative arts.
