5 Tips for Meeting with a College Professor
Meeting with a professor during your campus visit is a great way to learn more about a major you’re interested in and get a sense of what academics are like at Baylor. Get the most out of a professor meeting by preparing beforehand and taking in as much information as you can. Here are some helpful tips for a professor visit:
- Do a little research.
Most academic programs have a website. Start there to learn basics about the program. If you know current students in the program, you can also ask them for more information. - Be on time.
If you have never been to campus before, it can be a little confusing. Build in time on the day of your campus visit for getting lost. Arriving on time for your appointment will help you make a good first impression. - Dress appropriately.
While there’s no need to overdress, be sure to put your best foot forward and dress respectfully. - Speak up.
One easy way to stand out is if you ask questions. Also, be sure to take notes that you can look back on in the future. - Stay engaged.
Your visit will most likely be in a group setting rather than a one-on-one. It can be easy to get distracted when someone else starts asking questions, but you should try to stay focused. You might learn something you didn’t even think to ask.
