Recreation and Leisure Services
The Recreation and Leisure Services major is for students who want to work in recreation. The RLS curriculum offers the business and programming classes needed for all leisure service careers, and provides the foundation for almost any recreation field. Available courses include:
- Leadership and Facilitation
- Leisure Service Management
- Leisure and Lifestyle Well-being
- Risk Management
- Considerations for Diverse Populations
The RLS program offers two concentrations students can choose from: outdoor recreation and church recreation. The outdoor recreation track is geared towards areas of adventure recreation, outdoor education and the human dimensions of park and protected area management. The church recreation concentration prepares students to use recreation as a tool for ministry. Both concentrations lend themselves to preparing students for careers across the recreation spectrum (e.g., pubic parks and recreation, tourism operators, recreational and professional sports organizations and state and national parks).
All students must complete a full-time internship with a leisure service agency. The internship must involve application of major courses in day-to-day operations and a project.
Baylor offers an Outdoor Adventure Living-Learning Center, which is well-suited for Recreation and Leisure Services majors. Living-Learning Centers are housing opportunities designed to place students of common interests together.
