Education Certification - Gifted & Talented
The Dual Certificate Program in Elementary and Gifted and Talented Education allows future teachers to obtain two teaching certificates:
- elementary certificate (EC-Grade 6)
- gifted and talented supplemental certificate
Benefits of participating in the Gifted and Talented program at Baylor:
- Nationally recognized by National Association for Gifted Children and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
- Used as a national model for undergraduate programs in gifted education
- Only program in Texas that offers this option to undergraduate students
- Adds only three additional courses to the teacher education program plan
- Provides experiences with both general education and gifted and talented students
- 100 percent of graduates pass the TExES exam in gifted and talented education
- Recent graduates are teaching in elementary classrooms and in resource rooms for gifted students, acting as consulting teachers in gifted education in elementary schools, providing workshops for general education teachers, and teaching in magnet schools (e.g., International Baccalaureate).
